Given that There was lots of debate relating to “WP” and “Oval P” markings and it’s a bit puzzling, no less than to me. I attempted to checklist the varying scenarios for its occurrence or what may very well be encountered (Im confident I skipped a few), to which I greatly welcome comment.

Within the early 70’s the Olin Winchester-Western Division tried to diversify with a minimum of two unsuccessful attempts. The very first was an experimental indoor shooting range known as Wingo in San Diego, California. This brief lived attempt experienced a powerful tie to firearms and ammunition with unique guns, ammo and target launching machines being manufactured.
Even though there are already some plausible theories presented here and elsewhere we may perhaps Shotgun shells hardly ever know the answer to the original dilemma with regard to the receiver with both equally marks proven inside a former article. Determined by other replacement barrels I've seen which involve equally the WP and mail order P and an announcement from the former Winchester personnel that indicated they DID use some mail order parts when rebarreling rifles returned for assistance I suspect that it is a substitution receiver which was set up and proofed at Winchester as well as mail order proof was also included to simply reveal it wasn't the original receiver. That is certainly just my belief/guess. Hope that assists.
